In any dispute it is easy to spend thousands of pounds on legal fees. Whilst no one starts out wanting to waste a few thousand pounds on legal fees to get nowhere, it is easy to fall into the trap of litigation and paying a few hundred here, a few hundred more a month later, more for the court fees and before you know it, you are no further forward and heavily out of pocket.
Our fixed rate packages are different. They are designed so you can control how much is spent on your case. And the best bit is you do not have to settle the balance until you have reached agreement on everything and know that your case will definitely proceed.
Take a look at the real life example below:
The clients wanted to divorce and to have their finances made into a legally binding consent order. They had been quoted £750 plus VAT (ie £900) for the divorce from a solicitor and £1,000 plus VAT (i.e. £1,200) for the consent order. However, they also needed to agree on the division of their property, child maintenance and parenting arrangements. This would have taken an average of 2 initial appointment and 3 joint sessions of mediation, at a rate of £150 per person per session, setting them back a further £1,300 for the mediation. They could not afford £3,400 for their divorce, so came to Surrey Mediation Service for our help and chose our fixed price gold divorce at £1,198 per person
Week 1 - Client A Initial meeting cost £80
Week 1 - Client B Initial meeting cost £80
Week 2 - 2 hour joint meeting on parenting issues cost £160 each
Week 3 - 90 minute joint meeting on financial issues cost £120 each
Week 4 - 90 minute joint meeting on financial issues cost £120 each
Week 6 - 1 hour meeting to tie everything up and agree divorce arrangements cost £80 each
Week 7 - Memorandum of understanding produced by mediator and agreed by clients cost £90 each
Total paid: £1,300
Week 8 - Family law solicitors instructed for each party to petition for the divorce and draft a clean break consent order - balance due £648 per person
In eight weeks, the clients had agreed a thorough parenting plan, undertaken full financial disclosure and agreed the division of the finances. By the time the solicitors had been instructed, they had a plan in place for their divorce and knew what was happening and by when. This allowed their divorce to go through the courts, without recourse to further legal fees or having to attend court. 5 months later that had their decree absolute come through the post and had the security and benefits of a clean break consent order.

"Mediation helped my ex and I concentrate on the important issues and not argue about the little things. I was so worried about everything but the mediator made me feel so relaxed and helped guide us through all the complicated finances. The lady I dealt with at the solicitors was so professional and helpful and we just got our divorce through now. It is such a weight lifted of my shoulders. I recommend this route rather than spending thousands on unnecessary legal bills any day." Julia H, Croydon, London
"I wish I had discovered you before I wasted £3,000 sending my ex husband letters which were not responded to." Valerie S, Godalming, Surrey
